CSX 2287 later set 23 international speed records at the Bonnevile salt flats before vanishing for thirty years. The story of the missing Daytona is a bizarre affair involving rock and roll heavyweights, bodyguards, double-dealing hustlers, mental instability and suicide.

Virgil Exner's ultramodern Plymouth XNR looked like it could streak into the stratosphere in the blink of an eye. Plymouth promised the future with their wildly styled concept but gave little chance of it being reached. Beyond its 21st century costumery the XNR was just a plain old six cylinder Valiant. Tomorrow was just as far away in 1960 as it is today.
